India’s innings got off to the worst possible start as Lasith Malinga trapped Virender Sehwag LBW for a duck on the second ball of the first over. He struck again in the seventh over,taking the prize wicket of Sachin Tendulkar as India were reduced to 31 for two. He scored 18 runs off 14 balls and hit two fours.
Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli then steadied the innings with an 83-run partnership. They provided the base for the victory to be built upon. Kohli was finally out caught by a magnificent effort by Tillakaratne Dilshan.Gambhir was then joined in by Dhoni. They put up 109 runs for the fourth wicket.
Gambhir played a watchful knock of 97 runs off 122 balls.His knock included nine fours.He was bowled by Thisara Perera when he was very close to his hundred
Yuvraj Singh joined Dhoni who made 21 not out off 24 balls.Dhoni stuck there and accelerated the scoring to reach the final target.He played the captain inning of 91 not out off 79 balls, including eight fours and two sixes. Indian skipper MS Dhoni hit the winning runs by smashing a huge six over the long-on boundary.India achieved the target with ten balls remaining.
