INDIA VS SRI LANKA – FINAL – INDIAN INNING –GAMBHIR AND DHONI WON THE WORLD CUP FOR INDIA

64174831 130968

India’s innings got off to the worst possible start as Lasith Malinga trapped Virender Sehwag LBW for a duck on the second ball of the first over. He struck again in the seventh over, taking the prize wicket of Sachin Tendulkar as India were reduced to 31 for two. He scored 18 runs off 14 balls and hit two fours.

Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli then steadied the innings with an 83-run partnership. They provided the base for the victory to be built upon. Kohli was finally out caught by a magnificent effort by Tillakaratne Dilshan.Gambhir  was then joined in by Dhoni. They put up 109 runs for the fourth wicket.

Gambhir played a watchful knock of 97 runs off 122 balls. His knock included nine fours. He was bowled by  Thisara Perera when he was very close to his hundred

Yuvraj Singh joined Dhoni who made 21 not out off 24 balls.Dhoni stuck there and accelerated the scoring to reach the final target. He played the captain inning of 91 not out off 79 balls, including eight fours and two sixes. Indian skipper MS Dhoni  hit the winning runs by smashing a huge six over the long-on boundary.India achieved the target with ten balls remaining.

INDIA VS SRI LANKA-FINAL-SRI LANKAN INNING

Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka won a dubious toss. At the first instance, none of the two captains or match referee Jeff Crowe seemed to have heard the call made at the time of tossing. They got it right on the second toss-up and Kumar Sangakkara elected to bat first.

It was a slow start by the Sri-Lankan  opening pair of Upul Tharanga and Dilshan. They  were tied by tight bowling from Zaheer Khan, who bowled a magnificent opening spell. In five overs, he bowled two maidens, gave away just the six runs and took the wicket of Tharanga, caught by Sehwag diving to his right.

Dilshan and Sangakkara  put up 43 runs for the second wicket. Harbhajan Singh got Dilshan to play onto his stumps. Mahela Jayawardene came in to join Sangakkara.Sangakkara was out to Yuvraj, caught behind by Dhoni.Mahela Jayawardene scored a classic unbeaten century  off 84 balls including thirteen fours to guide Sri Lanka to 274 for six.Thilan Samaraweera was out for 21 and Chamara Kapugedera lasted only six balls. But Perera, played an important inning as the batting powerplay yielded 63 runs.

INDIA VS SRI LANKA-FINAL-WORLD CUP 2011-PREVIEW

ICCWorldCup2011-small

First time in the history of World Cup cricket the hosting nation will be crowned as World Champions. Sachin and Murlitharan – the two greats of World Cricket will play for the last time in the World Cup match. One has taken most number of wickets while other has scored most number of runs. However there can be only one winner either Tendulkar or Muralitharan, only time will tell.

India knows the Sri Lankans are not an easy team to beat with the players like T.Dilshan, K.Sangakara, L.Malinga and M.Muralitharan in prime form. The top three Sri Lankan batsmen all are in good form with bat but the weakness is in the Sri Lankan middle order which is yet to be tested in this tournament and that is where it gives edge to India over Sri Lanka. They have the bowlers like Lasith Malinga who can bowl many ‘the toe crusher yorkers’ in death overs.

Both teams know each other very well since they have played as many as 30 games between them since July 2008.

If India wins then it will be after long gap of 28 years and if Sri Lanka wins then this will be there second world cup triumph in 15 years.

Considering the performances of both the teams,India looks favorite to win this World Cup 2011.

INDIA VS SRI LANKA-FINAL-WORLD CUP 2011-PITCH AND CONDITIONS

INDIAN TEAM MUST WIN THE WORLD CUP THIS TIME- FOR SACHIN

He's God for the Indians.

He's the only one who bats like him for Sir Donald Bradman.

He's the one who gives nightmares for Shane Warne.

He's the most prized wicket for Wasim Akram.

He's the best batsman he's ever bowled to for Allan Donald.

He's Paa Ji for the Indian cricket team.

And again, it doesn't matter whether you are from India or Pakistan or any other cricket playing country - you got to know that this World Cup is about Sachin Tendulkar.

Love for Sachin the batsman knows no borders and has no boundaries!

He possibly holds every single batting record there is in ODI cricket and Test cricket. He has done it all in his illustrious career. The only thing missing is a World Cup victory.

And how badly he wants it.

And how badly his fans want to see him get it.

Sure Sachin is not the same aggressive batsman he was 10 years ago but he is still in a class of his own. His game has evolved with time, but one can't score a double hundred in an ODI game without being aggressive, and Sachin did that just a year ago.

Just before the World Cup 2011 started, Sachin promised that he will be at his aggressive best at the top of the order and he performed exceedingly well in this World Cup to help India to reach the final.Sachin showed the world that he delivered what he promised.

The Dhonis, Yuvrajs, Gambhirs, Kohlis, Rainas  will need to win the cup that counts for Sachin more than for the 1.2 billion people,as for Sachin, this is the last World Cup.

Sachin has given so much to Indian cricket, and now its time for Indian cricket to give him what he so dearly wants.

Can you imagine what it would be like to see Sachin lead India to victory by making the 100th 100 on his home ground at the Wankhede Stadium on 2nd April in the final of the 2011 World Cup-the biggest game of his life?

It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it!
