Under Dhoni's captaincy, India won the 2011 Cricket World Cup against Sri Lanka.

In the final, chasing a challenging total of 275,India lost their opening pair cheaply.Dhoni promoted himself up the batting order, coming before Yuvraj Singh. When he came to bat, the situation was very demanding, with India needing more than six runs per over and three top order batsmen already dismissed.India was under extreme pressure. He started building a good partnership with Gautam Gambhir and ran quick singles and twos.

Dhoni was on 60 off 60 balls, but later accelerated by smashing boundaries all over, ending with 91 not out off 79 balls. He finished the match with a huge six over long-on off bowler Nuwan Kulasekara. For his outstanding batting in the final, he was awarded as the man of the match.

Nobody can ever forget the captain’s vital knock in the final that helped India to win the World Cup after 28 years.
