Career summary -
Vangipurappu Venkata Sai Laxman is a right-handed batsman of considerable talent with great timing, he also bowls a bit of right-arm offbreak.
-He made his Test debut at Ahmedabad against South Africa in 1996.
-He scored an amazing 281 against Australia at Eden Gardens in 2001, and broke Sunil Gavaskar's long standing record of 236 not out, this was later eclisped by Virender Sehwag's 309 against Pakistan in 2004.
-Laxman went though a bit of a slump in the One Day side and was left out of the 2003 World Cup, but after that disappointment made an emphatic return scoring a string of hundreds in Australia and followed it up with a match-winning 107 in the series decider in Indian's historic tour of Pakistan in 2004.
-India's strength in the middle-order has often seen him miss out when they opt for 5 batsmen, with only 1 century in 11 Tests leading up to the 2007 tour of India.
