Everton Weekes (1948-1958)

  everton-weekes

Born 26 February 1925 at Pickwick Gap, Westbury, St Michael, Barbados

Short and stocky, Everton Weekes was a wonderful stroke-player all around the wicket. He had an early impact on Test cricket, becoming the first man to score centuries in five consecutive Tests, which he did against England and India between 1948 and 1949. He scored 90 (run out) in his next innings. On that 1948/49 tour of India he scored 779 runs at an average of 111.28.

He achieved the rare feat of scoring five double-centuries in one season on the tour of England in 1950. He was a very popular player in the Lancashire League in the 1950s. He was also an excellent fielder anywhere and was knighted in 1995. He played bridge for Barbados. His son David Murray kept wicket in Tests for West Indies.
