Debut: Sri Lanka v India at Colombo (RPS), 1997

- His debut coincided with Sri Lanka making Test cricket's highest total, he contributed 66 to a mountainous 952 for seven declared.

- His liking for big scores was soon evident as he made 167 in his fourth Test against New Zealand and followed it up with 242 in just his seventh, this time against India.

- His masterful 120 enabled Sri Lanka to successfully chase a target of 303 to beat England in the 1999 Carlton & United Series in Australia.

- Currently vice-captain of the national side, he will captain the side on the summer's tour of England due to Marvan Attapatu's absence through injury.
